The General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Reverend Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong has called on labour unions, employers and the government to portray good faith in negotiations and dialogue to ensure mutual respect in finding lasting solution to the emerging culture of strike and demonstrations in the country. He also urged church leaders to mediate to solve labour challenges facing the nation to ensure peace and development. Rev Dr Opuni-Frimpong gave the advice when he was addressing the 15th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) at Abetifi in the Kwahu East District. He said the Church as a neutral state actor had a significant role to play in facilitating unity, peace and development in the nation�s governance process. The General Secretary expressed worry that the emerging culture of strikes and demonstrations was weakening laid-down structures and displacing the relevance of dialogue, as if it was the only way to address labour issues. Rev Dr Opuni-Frimpong said 2016 would be a very important year in the life of the nation because of the general elections, which had been characterized by pockets of violence, inducement, tension and wastage of ballot papers as witnessed in the 2008 and 2012 elections. He advised the various churches to engage their members in voter education and inform them about the electoral processes and also urged them to vote on issues and avoid any form of electoral inducement from the political parties. Rev Dr Opuni-Frimpong urged the church to continue to pray for the peace and prosperity of the country and also trust in God to help the nation to come out of the current economic challenges.
