Mr Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle in the Western Region, has made a passionate appeal to traditional rulers in the region to close their ranks and celebrate the annual Kundum festival together.
The festival is currently being celebrated piecemeal by individual chiefs from the Nzema and Ahanta areas in the region.
Addressing the chiefs and people of Ahanta during their annual Kundum festival, the MP, who is also the Minister of Petroleum, emphasised that a united region celebrating one grand Kundum festival would attract local and international attention.
The tourism potential in the region, among other considerations, he contended, could equally be enhanced through the festival.
Kofi Buah also used the opportunity to call for unity among traditional rulers in the region, adding that chiefs have a duty to collaborate effectively with government to address the challenges facing the region.
The paramount chief of Lower Dixcove, Nana Kwasi Agyemang, on his part, appealed to government to address the development challenges facing the six coastal districts along the oil enclave in the region.
“We have on numerous occasions drawn the attention to government and other development partners to the numerous challenges facing our coastal towns, and until our needs are met, we would not stop crying openly about them,” he said.
When the Member of Parliament for the Ahanta West Constituency, Kwame Aboagye, took his turn, he announced that government was ready to support educational programmes in Ahanta West.
According to him, education still remains the relevant tool required to transform the constituency, and government would not shirk that responsibility.
He also said government would collaborate with the traditional rulers in the area to solve the challenges facing the communities.
