The first Formed Police Unit (FPU) contingent of 170 personnel has been deployed to South Sudan on a United Nations Mission.
The contingent was seen off at the Kotoka International Airport by a section of the top police hierarchy, led by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan.
These were contained in a press statement issued and signed by Superintendent Cephas Arthur on behalf of the Director-General/Public Affairs, DCOP David Ampah-Bennin.
Briefing the contingent at the airport prior to their departure, the IGP charged the personnel to exhibit a high level of discipline and integrity, bearing in mind that any negative conduct by any of them would bring the mission and the Ghana Police Service into disrepute.
He called on them to “go out there and be good ambassadors of Ghana.” The Director-General/Police Operations, COP/Mr John Kudalor, also entreated the personnel to reciprocate the heavy investment made in them by showing dedication to work. He also urged them to exhibit utmost professionalism and respect the command structure.
The Police Administration has for the past two years been preparing for this deployment, which is the first of its kind in the service.
