The National House of Chiefs (NHC) has welcomed the return to work of doctors in the public hospitals as they continue with negotiations to resolve the impasse over their conditions of service.
It said this was refreshing, and praised the leadership of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) and the entire membership of the association for the decision.
The NHC, in a press statement signed by the acting Registrar, Mr A.K. Essien, also applauded the government for opening the door to negotiations, to help bring a conclusion to the matter.
“The action by the GMA and the government shows the commitment of all parties involved in the impasse to resolve same peacefully and amicably through dialogue.”
The statement urged the parties to approach the negotiations in good faith, and invited all stakeholders to support efforts at finding a lasting settlement.
It said the house found it heart-warming that the doctors’ decision to call off their strike was influenced by pleas from the people, including chiefs, religious bodies and civil society.
This must be seen as victory for every Ghanaian, the chiefs added.
