Man Grabbed For Selling Mosquito Coil Made With Broom And Cow Dung

The Eastern regional police command has arrested Kwabena Owusu, a 37-year-old man from Bekwai in the Ashanti Region who always dresses as a woman to sell fake mosquito coil made of ground broom and cow dung.

The suspect covers his head with female wig and wears female skirt and blouse, as well as female shoes to match.

The Public Relations Officer of the Eastern regional police command, ASP Yaw Nketia -Yeboah told the Daily Heritage that the suspect was arrested by a group of market women and men at the Nsawam market who sent him to the Nsawam police station.

The suspect has for some time now been selling the “insecticide mosquito coil called ‘Magic Scent’ to unsuspecting customers in the area. Some of the market women who were on the lookout for the suspect after suspecting the mosquito coil to be fake spotted him and raised alarm leading to his arrest.

According to ASP Nketia-Yeboah, during interrogation, the suspect confessed in the presence of many independent witnesses that he grinds broom and cow dung and sells to the general public as mosquito coil.

The Nsawam police, therefore, is preferring a provisional charge of defrauding by false pretence and embarking on noxious trade.

The substances are yet to be sent to the forensic crime laboratory for test. Meanwhile, the general public is being warned to be on alert not to purchase these suspected fake insecticides which are hazardous to their health.

The Eastern regional police command has appealed to the general public to be alert and not to purchase such suspicious products which may be harmful to their health, but rather report the sellers to the nearest police station.
