Obom Domeabra MP Hot

Fear is said to have gripped the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Obom Domeabra constituency in the Greater Accra region, Daoud Yemoh Anum over the decision of the deputy director of the National Service Secretariat, Sophia Akuaku to contest in the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries. The decision by Madam Akuaku to contest for the upcoming primary in the constituency has received a rousing welcome by grassroots supporters in the area, thereby putting fear in the incumbent MP, who took an earlier decision not to contest. Initially, it was rumored that the MP will not seek re-election at the primary and was seeking to groom a candidate to contest Madam Akuaku, but after failing to get a candidate to contest her, the MP in a sharp u-turn has picked nomination forms to contest again. Apart from the MP, Isaac Awuku Yebor who contested in the constituency as an independent candidate in the 2012 parliamentary election and lost to the incumbent has also picked nomination forms to contest. Reports indicate that Madam Akuaku is enjoying massive endorsement among the people and has been tipped by grassroots supporters to unseat the incumbent MP. Speaking to the DAILY HERITAGE in an interview, the one-time aspiring parliamentary candidate who stood on the ticket of the NDC in the 2012 parliamentary election at the Dome-Kwabenya constituency said the decision to represent the people of Obom-Domeabra was born out of the desire to serve and help the downtrodden. She revealed that I decided to contest Obom Domeabra because I know the area very well-that is where my grandfather lived and established a village called Akuakukope where deprivation was high, she stated. Madam Akuaku said with the little experience and knowledge acquired in public service, I think it is time for me to serve and serve my people better. On the question of why not at the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, she said considering the work done so far and performance at the 2012 election, the NDC is likely to win in the constituency come 2016. I believe I can win Dome-Kwabenya for the NDC, but there comes a time when you have to weigh where your impact will be felt most and I firmly believe that Obom-Domeabra needs me, she explained. Madam Akuaku revealed that signals from the constituency is clear that the people of Obom-Domeabra are looking for a dynamic, humble and development oriented leader who will leave behind concrete legacies for future generations. She, therefore, appealed for unity among the people, adding that the primary is a family contest and must be devoid of insults and victimization to retain the seat for the NDC and also ensure that President Mahama will the 2016 elections.
