The Accra Circuit Court Wednesday asked police investigators handling the case of Ekow Micah, the musician, to assist him seek prompt medical care for the backache he is suffering.
The directive by the court followed an appeal by counsel for Micah, Mr John David Merson, put before the court that his client was experiencing severe backache.
He had prayed the court to prevail on the investigators to assist Micah to undergo medical treatment to prevent his condition from deteriorating.
The court, presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh, granted the request and asked investigators to assist the accused in that direction.
It, subsequently, adjourned the trial to tomorrow, September 4, 2015.
Second prosecution witness
At yesterday�s sitting, the second prosecution witness, the investigator handling the narcotic case, had stepped forward to testify.
However, another policewoman stood up and informed the court that the substantive prosecutor, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Moses Atibilla, had been called to the office.
ACP Atibilla had been in court as early as 10 a.m. for the trial to commence but left the court hours later after the judge had informed the court in the morning that the prosecutor needed to attend to a meeting.
At the last sitting on Monday, August 24, 2015, the first prosecution witness, Detective Corporal Evans Adu, had told the court that when the police arrested the accused, he had claimed ownership of the narcotic drug which he smoked to �ginger his career�.
Micah is before the court for allegedly possessing a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
He has been charged with possessing a narcotic drug, a charge to which he has pleaded not guilty.
Background
The accused person, according to the prosecution, is a resident of Ogbojo, near Kokrobitey in Accra.
On August 4, this year, he was arrested by the Airport Police over an alleged extortion case currently under investigations.
According to the prosecution, the following day the police and the accused person visited his house to conduct a search and, in the process, a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found concealed in the accused person�s back pack.
