The Kasoa District Police Command in the Central Region has warned that it will radically deal with any individual or group which uses the spate of robberies in the area to create needless and unnecessary fear and panic among the residents. The comment follows rumours that some robbers had gone to some areas of the town, particularly Adom Estates and Outtaa City, where an alleged armed robber had been lynched, and placed notices on the doors of residents warning them of reprisal attacks. Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Kasoa District Commander, Superintendent of Police Mr Samuel Tibil Punobyin, said the people behind the rumours had an evil agenda to dent the image of the town and the police. Background Amanfro and its surrounding communities had, over the last three months, experienced massive robbery attacks which had brought chaos and confusion to the entire town . The situation, apart from creating fear and panic among residents of the area, had also caused some of them to relocate to safer communities. Residents of one of the affected areas at Adom Estates, a suburb of Kasoa, allegedly apprehended a young man and lynched him. As part of the measures to address the situation, the Central Regional Police Command, in partnership with the Kasoa District Police Command, recently in a swoop arrested 37 people suspected to have been the brains behind those robberies. The police have also deployed personnel to various areas of Kasoa to ensure security, while other measures were being implemented to address the situation. It�s all lies Mr Punobyin said when his outfit heard of the rumours, the police visited and interacted with all the residents of the area to ascertain the claims of a possible attack by the robbers. �I can tell you for a fact that none of the residents confirmed that they had seen any of such posters or notices. They told us that they hadn�t come across any threat of an intended attack on them,� he said. Mr Punobyin said the police took the investigation further and went on a house-to-house visit, adding that �we never came across even one person to confirm the rumours�. He said since the recent robberies hit the area, the police had intensified their security checks in all areas of Kasoa, including those places which had not been attacked. �Why would anybody create such needless panic, knowing the full implication of their actions? If the rumours were true, what would the police lose to confirm them?,� Mr Punpbyin wondered. Daily Graphic visit When the news team of the Daily Graphic visited the area, there was nothing to prove that robbers had, indeed, posted notices in the areas. Residents of Amanfro, Iron City, Adom Estates and other areas were busily attending to their daily duties. Some who spoke to the Daily Graphic said they were yet to come across any of such notices. According to a resident of Adom Estates, Ms Rebecca Tawiah, �I have not seen any notice on my door, neither have I heard anybody claiming to have seen one.� Asked whether she was living in fear, she responded in the negative, saying that �the police are always patrolling here and this has given some of us peace�. Another resident, Mr Eric Tanko, said although he was still living in fear, he had not seen any notice of an intended robbery attacks on his door or anywhere.
