Ekow Micah Falls Sick

An Accra Circuit Court has ordered the investigator in the case involving popular reggae musician Lester Ekow Micah to assist the accused to get medical care. The order followed a complaint the 43-year-old musician made through his lawyer, John David Merson, to the court. The lawyer had told the court that Micah had backache and wondered if the investigator could assist his client seek medical attention. Earlier, the defence lawyer said that ACP Moses Atibilla, the substantive prosecutor in the case, had asked him to take Friday for the continuation of the trial. He said ACP Atibilla, who was earlier in the court, had been called to the office for another assignment, a position ASP Patience Mario, holding Atibilla�s brief, confirmed. The presiding judge, Aboagye Tandoh, however granted the request of the defence lawyer, ordering the investigator to see to it that the accused person had medical attention in respect of his complaint. The hearing of the case has been adjourned until Friday, September 4, 2015. Charged with possession of narcotic drugs, Micah is said to have told the police that he smoked the alleged dried leaves in order to stimulate him in his music career. Micah has, however, denied the offence. Next Witness Meanwhile, the prosecution is expected to present their second of three witnesses in the trial tomorrow. On Monday D/Cpl Evans Adu of the Airport Police Station narrated to the court how the substance suspected to be Indian hemp was found at the residence of the accused. He said a case involving an alleged extortion reported against the musician of �Me Si Wu Hemaa� fame led to the discovery of the substance in a black polythene bag in another bag in the room of the Rastafarian. D/Cpl Adu said when Micah was questioned about the source of the drug, he admitted ownership and told the police that he used it to �ginger� him in his music career. The facts of the case are that Micah is a resident of Ogbojo near Kokrobitey in Accra. On August 4 this year Micah was arrested by the Airport Police over an alleged extortion case currently under investigation. According to the police, at about 11:30 hours the following day the police and Micah visited his (Micah�s) house to conduct a search and in the process, a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found concealed in Micah�s backpack. The popular reggae musician and president of the Music Council of Ghana allegedly admitted ownership of the exhibit and told the police that he smoked the substance to stimulate his music career. The prosecution said the exhibit would be forwarded to the Police Forensic Crime laboratory for examination.
