Police in Sekondi in the Western region have arrested two persons for requesting to buy human parts from the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital Mortuary.
The suspects, John Kyei Quadoo, 30, and Alhassan Abubakar, 57, a traditional herbalist, have been granted police enquiry bail, but asked to report at the police station periodically.
Western Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Reuben Asiwoko, confirmed the bizarre incident to the press in Sekondi yesterday.
He said on Friday, August 28, Quadoo, who resides at Ketan Estate, near Sekondi, went to the Effia-Nkwanta Mortuary and told the mortuary attendant, one Christopher Dadzie, that he wanted to buy an albino or a Whiteman�s hair and water used to bath corpses.
The mortuary attendant became alarmed and asked him to wait for some minutes and quickly informed the head of the hospital mortuary, Mr. Noah Ayisi.
Mr. Ayisi then alerted the Sekondi police and Quaidoo was subsequently arrested.
Upon his arrest, he told the police in his caution statement that it was Alhassan Abubakar, a herbalist and a resident of Adiembra Ridge, near Sekondi, who sent him for the items to enable him perform rituals.
The police, therefore, arrested Abubakar on the same day in his house and both suspects were placed in police custody and charged for offensive conduct.
However, they were granted police enquiry bail and asked to report at the police station periodically while police investigations continue.
