The arrival of two power badges to help ease Ghana’s electricity supply deficit has been extended again by a month.

According to the Chief Executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Alex Mould, the two badges which are expected to add some 450 megawatts to the national grid will now arrive in October, 2015.

This will be the second time government has failed to meet the timeline it announced for the arrival of the badges.

It was originally scheduled to dock at the ports in the first quarter of the year but was rescheduled to September, 2015.

In an exclusive interview with Citi Business News, Alex Mould confirmed, “the power badges are in Turkey, they are not supposed to leave until the end of this month. They are going to arrive in October; they will be hooked up to the grid in October and there will be electricity somewhere in November.”

He revealed that Ghanaians will start seeing improvement in the power situation in November.

Meanwhile the GNPC has dismissed reports by the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) that it has not paid the required 100 million dollars in an escrow account to guarantee the provision of the emergency power by Turkish company, KAR-POWERSHIP.

“I don’t know those people, talk to GridCo, talk to ECG, these are the executing authorities; they are not an executing authority. Talk to the executing authorities, not people who are speculating, unless ACEP is in the office of GridCo, unless ACEP is in the office of ECG, I don’t know why you are talking to them. GNPC has given the guarantee”, he charged.

Meanwhile all efforts to get through to Karpowership Company Limited on the latest development proved futile.
