NDC Primaries: Zita Bounces Back

As the National Democratic Congress (NDC) prepares for its Parliamentary primaries in the various constituencies across the country, some aspirants have stepped up their campaigns as they seek to win the votes of the electorate. However, as many of them continue with their message, Constituents in some areas are also rooting for their preferred candidates to win the primaries and subsequently represent them in the Legislature. It has emerged that, Ambassador Zita Okaikoi who contested in 2008 and lost to Ms. Adwoa Sarfo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Dome Kwabenya constituency is still having immense support within her party. NDC delegates and some supporters in the Dome Kwabenya Constituency are seriously rooting for the coming back of Zita Okaikoi to contest on the ticket of the NDC since the party doesnt have any competitor to unseat Ms. Adwoa Sarfo. In an interview with some constituents especially the youth and delegates, they indicated that Zita Sabah Okaikoi is the only person who has vowed to wrestle the Dome-Kwabenya seat from the NPP. The people also hinted that although she had lost the past election, her footprints are still manifest in the lives of the people and the constituency as a whole as she exhibited leadership that is incomparable to what the NPP is giving to the people now. The constituents also averred that Zita by her principles in fairness, equity and justice whiles in opposition in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency coupled with several developmental projects she brought to the people are clear manifestations of the fact that she is the better choice for 2016. They noted that she had provided streets lights to some areas which hitherto were always dark at night hence reducing road accidents, facilitation and funding for a Police tent together with other logistics, facilitation for the re-gravelling of the Dome market and construction of the Dome-Pillar 2 Bridge. Look we have realized that she is the right person for the job and constituents actually know this, they said. When she was our candidate in 2008, she had been in touch with the people at all levels particularly the grass roots and had at some points in time met their needs. We cannot sit down this time and allow our expectations to go wild; we are going all out to campaign for her to win the primaries and the coming elections in the constituency. Zita Okaikoi was once served in two ministries as Minister of Information and Minister of Tourism and has distinguished herself in playing vital roles towards helping the party achieve its principles and objectives. According to them Zita also helped form the Dome Kwabenya Constituency branch of the NDC Youth Wing and that she fully qualifies and has demonstrated that she can take care of the constituency. The electorate also said, Zita is different from others who would not contribute or organize people for the party but would wait till someone has done that then they come with money at the last minute to buy borborbor groups and football jerseys for people. They are calling on all to champion the campaign for We want Zita back so as to ensure that the programs she had for the constituency were implemented to the fullest.
