Man Fined GH�800 For Selling Fake Fertilizer

The Fomena District Magistrate Court in the Adansi North district of Ashanti has fined a 30-year old man GH�800 for selling fake brands of liquid fertilizer to cocoa farmers. The convict, Asamoah, who is himself a farmer, will serve two months in prison in case he defaults in paying the fine. He was arrested by the Police after one of his victims became suspicious of the genuineness of fertilizer - Agyenkwa Liquid Fertilizer and subsequently alerted the police. Briefing the media, the Fomena Police District Commander, DSP Obeng Asubonteng explained that the convict would serve two months in Prison if he is unable to pay GH�800 fine The Court has also authorised the police to destroy the fake chemicals. DSP Asubonteng said the convict was arrested on August 31, 2015 at Hwereso, a farming community in the Adansi North district following a tip-off. Upon a search in his residence, the Police retrieved 17 gallons of the fake fertilizer and during interrogation, the man pleaded guilty to dealing in fake product, after which he was convicted on his own plea by the Magistrate Court.
