Young Atta Mills Picks Forms ...

Mr Samuel Atta Mills, the younger brother of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, has picked nomination forms to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primary in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Constituency of the Central Region.

With a tone resembling that of the late President, Mr Samuel Atta Mills, 59, declared: “It is time for the NDC to recapture the KEEA seat.”

Mr Mills is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC). He has called for unity within the NDC to enable the party to win the 2016 elections.

Time for unity

He said the party lost the seat to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) due to the division among its rank, and pledged that the seat would return to the NDC in the 2016 parliamentary elections.

Currently, the seat is occupied by Dr Nana Ato Arthur of the NPP.

Wrangling in the KEEA NDC prior to the 2012 parliamentary elections compelled Dr Ato Quarshie, a former NDC parliamentarian for the area and minister, to contest as an independent candidate. The NDC was represented by Dr J.S. Annan, who lost the seat to Nana Ato Arthur.

Humility and trustworthiness

Mr Atta Mills said he would use his humility and trustworthiness to get the mandate of the people at the primary and go ahead to win the seat.

“We are very humble, trustworthy and loyal people. Just like the late president. That is what an Atta-Mills leadership will bring on board to ensure the NDC wins back the KEEA seat,” he stated.

Two other party members have picked forms to contest the KEEA seat. The two are: Mrs Doreen Manieson, the former parliamentary candidate for the Progressive People’s Party in the constituency who has defected to the NDC; the other aspirant is a Takoradi-based lawyer, Mr Oscar Asmah.

Decent campaigning

The Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Mr John Quaicoe, presented the forms to Mr Atta Mills and advised him and all other aspirants to conduct their campaigns decently.

He also said unity was crucial if the party wanted to recapture the seat and asked aspirants not to do anything to divide the rank and file of the party during their campaigns.
