NPPs Treasurer Hasnt Been Excluded As Signatory To GCB Account...Prove It - Agyepong Dares

The opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has dismissed claims which necessitated the move by his National Treasurer, Abankwa Yeboah and the First Vice Chair, Freddie Blay to reactivate the party’s dormant account at the Ecobank.

According to him, the allegation that he [Agyepong] as a General Secretary and the National Chairman, Paul Afoko wrote to the party’s official financial institution, Ghana Commercial Bank to exclude the signatory of his National Treasurer, Abankwa Yeboah from the account is not true.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Kwabena Agyepong revealed that the talk that the Treasurer’s signatory has been excluded from the GCB account is not true because it took the Treasurer and the National Chairman to sign before the staff at the party office were paid last month.

He again revealed that all the cheques that he signed before he traveled outside was counter signed by the same Treasurer; defusing the allegation that a letter from the General Secretary and the National Chairman, Paul Afoko has been sent to the GCB to exclude his signatory.

It is not true that we have written a letter to GCB not to make the Treasurer a signatory to the account; so to use that as a reason to divert money into the party’s dormant account at the Ecobank to put it beyond the reach of the General Secretary and Chairman is totally wrong”, he stated.

…it took the treasurer and the chairman to sign before staffs were paid; how did they pay the staff this month if the treasurer is not a signatory the GCB account? All the cheques that I signed before I traveled was counter signed by this same treasurer and where-in lies the allegation that we have written a letter to the bank that he should not be a signatory to the GCB account?....if they have any prove, they should come out with it”, he dared.

Stating how cheques are withdraw, Mr. Agyepong averred the most of the cheques of the party were signed by him as the Chief Scribe and the Treasurer except few times that the National Chairman has signed in his [Agyepong’s] absence.

He maintained there has been a convention and practice within the NPP that three (3) signatories comprising the National Chairman, General Secretary and the Treasurer are needed before any withdrawal is made from the party’s official account.

He therefore deflated the assertion that he [Agyepong] and Paul Afoko were reliably informed and approved for the party’s dormant Ecobank account to be reactivated.

The first time we heard the account has been reactivated was in August 10, 2015 and the account was opened on June 23, 2015 and so it is not true we refused to sign to make the dormant account effective”, he revealed.
