Nigerians Welcome Prez Buhari To Ghana

Nigerians who thronged to the Kotoka International Airport in Accra to welcome President Muhammadu Buhari say they are excited by the positive developments in their country since he took over power in March. "I hear that now we are having light" an elated supporter told Joy News as President Buhari arrived in Ghana for a one-day working visit.

The former Army General arrived at approximately 10am at the Kotoka International airport where he inspected a guard of honour mounted in his honour.  Dressed in his signature wear, Agbada, the Nigerian president was received by his Ghanaian counterpart who also wore his traditional smock.

A throng of Nigerians massed up at the airport under two large banners. Many waved brooms, the party insignia of Buhari’s All Progressives Congress, APC.

The broom signifies the house-cleaning agenda the party intends to embark upon after years of mismanagement and corruption. There was also drumming and dancing as a sizeable crowd hailed their president.

Buhari is in Peduase Lodge where he is holding bilateral talks with president John Mahama.

The former army general won elections in March. Nigeria recorded a democratic first as an opposition party won power from the ruling party through the ballot box.

The Nigerian president known for his strong anti-corruption credentials has publicly declared his assets.  His efforts has not gone unrecognised by some supporters at the airport.

"The people that eat our money they got most of them red-handed" another Nigeria hailed and encouraged Buhari not to be distracted by the opposition.

"Things are now moving well....I want him to still keep on" he encouraged.

One of Nigeria's greatest headache is power.

Nigeria, the world's 5th largest oil producer has an average annual per capita power consumption of only 155 kWh, is among the lowest in the world. In May 2015, only 5 out of 23 power plants in the country were functioning.

But power supply has reported improved after attaining 5,000 megawatts production.
