"Wonder Club" And Two Others Join Premiership

"Wonder Club", Accra Great Olympics survived a last minute on-slaught by Okwawu United to qualify for the 2009/2010 Glo Premier League, together with Aduana Stars and New Edubiase United. Despite drawing 2:2 with Okwawu Utd., the "Wonder Club" qualified by virtue of being a point richer than the "Asaase Aban" boys on the log table, even before the final matches of the PolyTank Middle League climaxed today, Saturday, 22nd August, 2009. The match itself was full of thrills and drama, and it lived up to its pre-match hype and anticipated billing as Olympics romped home to an early two goal lead in the first half through Ahmed Belal. However, in the 2nd half, the "Asaase Aban" boys turn on the heat, and it came as no surprise when Maxwell Darko pulled one back. Against the run of play, Anim Sarfo finally made matters even, with a lovely strike. Two players were sent off in the match, one from both sides. In other matches, Gold Stars drew 1:1 with New Edubiase United, whilst Aduana Stars also drew 3:3 with Bechem United. Thus, Aduana Stars from the Brong Ahafo Region, New Edubiase United from the Ashanti Region and Accra Great Olympics from the Greater Accra Region have qualified for 2009/2010 Glo Premier League, which is expected to kick off in October, barring any unforseen circumstance. They will replace Swedru All Blacks (Central Region), Tema Youth (Greater Accra) and Sporting Mirren (Greater Accra), who had the unfortunate experience of being relegated in the 2008/2009 Glo Premier League.
