A 44-year-old man who allegedly stole his wife�s GH�36,000 has been arrested by the Tesano police in Accra. Kwaku Gyasi, a businessman, described by the police as a serial fraudster, was alleged to have gone to their house at Kwabenya, in the absence of his wife and stole the money and an Ipad. Gyasi, is said to be married to Patience Asante, 38, a business woman, for the past five months. According to the police, there were a lot of fraud cases pending at Tema and Accra police stations against Gyasi. A lot of companies in Tema and individuals, especially women, the police said had fallen victim to his fraudulent activities. His modus operandi is that he contacts his victims with the promise of supplying them with building materials and when the money is paid to him he absconds. The Tesano District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP)Edward Tetteh, told The Ghanaian Times that on April 6, the suspect and his wife were together at their cement shop at Dome when the wife complained that she was hungry. Gyasi, he said told the wife that he was going home to prepare food for her. �The suspect went home, broke open the door leading to the wife�s room and stole GH�36,000 and an Ipad belonging to the wife,� the commander said. He said after committing the crime Gyasi later went to her sister�s house, also at Kwabenya, to prepare the food and sent it to the wife at the shop. DSP Tetteh said after close of work when the couple went home the wife detected that the door had been broken into and the money together with the ipad stolen. He said Gyasi then accompanied his wife to the Tesano Police Station to lodge a complaint. �During investigations the crime team was invited and it detected that the scene had been disturbed,� DSP Tetteh said. He said a neighbour later informed the suspect�s wife that he saw her husband at the house breaking into the room and later coming out with a school bag. Sensing danger, Gyasi bolted and was arrested on September 7, from his hideout, DSP Tetteh said. He said the suspect had been placed in police custody to assist in investigations.
