Anas' Expos: Indicted Judges Must Be Penalised If GBA

The Ghana Bar Association has expressed regret over some judges who have been cited in a latest bribery scandal.

According to them, if those judges are really found guilty of bribery and corruption, they must be punished accordingly.

An expose by ace journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas revealed that some 34 judges and other workers of the Judicial service, were involved in taking bribes and extorting money from litigants. The high profile judges including, Justice John Ajet-Nassam, a High Court Judge, who freed Alfred Agbesi Woyome in the controversial Gh¢51 million judgment debt scandal, have been videotaped and audio recorded in separate conversations with suspects or persons acting as agents of suspects before them to compromise big cases.

Speaking to the issue during an interview on PEACE FM News @ 12, Spokesperson for the Ghana Bar Association, Mr. Tony Forson said it is sad that such high profile judges will be caught in such an act; adding “if they are found guilty, they will be punished according to the constitution…the constitution makes provisions for the removal of superior court judges in Article 146 and so if they are found guilty they will dance according to the tune of the constitution. However, we must also remember that not all the judges are corrupt; we have some who are very hardworking. The news is disturbing but we must also allow thorough investigations to be carried out."
