NDC Primaries: ET Will Win Primaries But...

Youth activists of the governing National Democratic Congress in the NingoPrampram constituency have called the November 7 parliamentary primaries for incumbent MP, Enoch TeyeMensah, but said the ruling party should be prepared to lose the seat in the 2016 election to the opposition New Patriotic Party.

According to a spokesperson of the youth, KobbyMensah, there is no gainsaying Mr. E T Mensah will edge pass his two contenders, Samuel George Nartey and Michael Tetteh, but, that will also mean that for the first time in many years E.T Mensah would “surrender” the seat to the NPP in the main elections.

Speaking to Kwesi Aboagye on Neat Fm yesterday, the Youth activist noted that although the veteran MP will exert his influence on delegates of the party to secure another mandate, the generality of the people in the constituency are fed up with him and are calling for change.

Analyzing the dynamics of the constituency, KobbyMensah asserted that the people of Ningo, who he said outnumber their Prampram counterparts, have resolved to vote against the NDC if ET Mensah is elected again as the parliamentary candidate.

He accused the MP of diverting all developments to Prampram, thereby impoverishing Ningo and its people, adding thateven though the District Chief Executive for the area comes from Ningo, the veteran MP has used his influence to channel all development projects to his native area, Prampram.

He said the only way to safeguard the seat from falling to the NPP is to supplant ET Mensah with presidential staffer Samuel George Nartey.

Speaking on the same program, aspiring parliamentary candidate for the NingoPrampram constituency, Michael Tetteh, while acknowledging the contributions of the incumbent MP to the NDC and the area, said it was time the people are represented by a new candidate.

He said ET Mensah has paid his dues to the ruling party; as a result, he will not antagonize him in his bid to secure the mandate of delegates of the party to lead the NDC in the NingoPrampram constituency into the 2016 elections.
Another claimant to the seat, Samuel George Nartey, also made passionate appeal to ET Mensah to retire honorably for the youth of the area to take over the mantle of leadership.

He believes that the continuous stay in office by the incumbent MP will hamper growth of the area, insisting it was about time for him to bow out for someone like him with new ideas to take over and rebuild the constituency.

In an interview with FiifiBanson on AnopaKasapa onKasapafm yesterday, the aspiring parliamentary candidate said“Our dear father E.T. Mensah has done a great service for people of Ningo-Prampram. But we believe that his twenty years of service is enough for him to retire for someone like me with great ambitions to take over and continue the good work that he has done for us.”
