Why Anas Corruption In Judiciary Video Must Not Be Shown Sam Okudzeto

A former President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Mr Sam Okudzeto, has urged journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas not to release a video purportedly showing judges receiving bribes to influence cases they were hearing. The video, which has already been viewed by Chief Justice Georgina Wood, has led to the suspension of 22 judges of the lower courts and provoked impeachment processes against 12 judges of the High Court. Anas has planned to air the video on September 22, 2015. There have been discussions the date was announced on whether the video should be showed or not. Anas himself has mentioned he has received phone calls from highly-placed individuals in society asking him to shelve it. The latest to call on Anas to shelve the video is Mr Okudzeto, who told Accra-based Citi FM Thursday that releasing it ahead of a thorough investigation into the conduct of the judges would be unfair. I maintain that until the complete enquiry, they should not show it because you are asking the public to judge and that is incorrect. You need proof and in this case if proof is provided, the proper thing to do is to take action and the quicker the action is taken, the better it is, so as to clear the public mind of the perception, he stated. News of the bribery scandal in the judiciary has been met with outrage by members of the public, with some calling for the prosecution of the parties involved.
