Volta Leads In NDC Membership

THE NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) has registered a staggering two million of its members biometrically across the country over the past one year, with the Volta Region leading the registration exercise with over 300,000 members.

The General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who made the announcement, said the Northern Region follows with 250,000, with the Ashanti Region placing third with 200,000.

According to him, it was reasonable that the Volta Region, “which is the world bank of the NDC in terms of votes accumulation,” recorded the highest figure, adding that the huge number recorded in the Ashanti Region is refreshing.

Asiedu Nketia, nicknamed ‘General Mosquito’, was speaking during the official launching of the Ashanti Regional NDC Biometric Registration Exercise on Wednesday.

One Million Votes

The NDC chief scribe said the mad rush for NDC cards in the Ashanti Region strongly indicates that the NDC is attractive in the region, observing that the party’s ambition of winning one million votes in the area in 2016 is realistic.

General Mosquito parried away the belief that the Ashanti Region is the stronghold of the NPP, indicating that the region is not the bonafide property of any political party.

Giving the formula to win the one million votes, he stated that “every member in the region only needs to convince just five people to vote for the NDC and this simple strategy can land us the one million vote target.”

He therefore charged the NDC members in the region to start campaigning in their various localities so that the NDC and John Mahama would retain power in 2016.

Ashanti Date Extended

Asiedu Nketia announced that the closing date for the submission of nomination forms of NDC parliamentary aspirants in the region has been extended to September 17, 2015.

He explained that the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC decided to extend the Ashanti Region’s date due to the fact that the region started its registration and other party events late.

The event was graced by party bigwigs such as Yaw Obimpeh, the Regional Chairman, Joseph Yammin, Kwaku Boahen, Francis Dodovi, Brogya Genfi, Samad Akalilu, and DCEs among other key party members in the region.
