NPP Should Concentrate On Resolving Its Party CrisisStop Disturbing Us With Voters Register - Koku

The joining of Danquah Institute in the quest for a new voters’ register before the commencement of the 2016 general elections has been described as diversionary tactics by the deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho.

He says the Danquah Institute involving in the opposition New Patriotic Party's (NPP's) demand for a new voters’ register is meant to divert public attention on the crisis going on in the party.

Speaking on Okay FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, Koku Anyidoho said Minority caucus have even ignored the presentation by Dr. Bawumia, the NPP 2016 Running Mate since they realized the presentation carried no relevance and so introduced another agenda by using NHIS as a tool to discredit the voters’ register.

According to the Danquah Institute, it was persistent in calling for details of the 2010 census to be made public before the new voter registration exercise started in April 2012.

“But, this call was ignored. We knew that could help track two things that would otherwise not be obvious to a biometric register: people below the age of 18 and foreigners resident in Ghana or bussed in for voter registration,” he stated.

“You simply cannot have a country that claimed 60% of its population was below the age of 30 ending up with a voters list of 56% of that same population, comprising of those of 18 years old and above”.

Danquah Institute has concluded that its investigation into the Ghana’s voters’ register has revealed 2 million ghost names; insisting it is enough reason to demand for a new voters’ register.

But Koku Anyidoho said Gabby Otchere-Darko has joined in to intensify the demand for a new voters’ register in order to divert public from the deep cracks in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“It is rather the NPP which has collapsed and not the voters’ register. NPP should concentrate on resolving their party crisis and stop disturbing us with voters’ register because their claim of ghost names in the voters’ register is red herring”, he averred.
