Chief Gunned Down In Kumasi

The Chief of Akrofrom in Atwima Koforidua in the Ashanti Region was brutally murdered by some unknown assailants on Monday morning. Nana Adusa Agyapong IV was shot three timestwice in the neck and once in the leg. He died instantly in the presence of his boys. The traditional leader had visited a plot of land meant for construction works when the calamity struck around 9am. The assailants reportedly laid ambush in a bush and opened fire on the chief without provocation. The precision with which the assailants, who are currently on the run, shot the chief has heightened suspicion that he might have been a victim of contract killing. The death of the chief was said to have sparked panic and sadness in the people of Akrofrom. Confirming the incident to DAILY GUIDE, Supt Joseph Nyaba, the Abuakwa District Police Commander, said the case was being investigated. He noted that Nana Agyapong, whilst on the land with his boys, realised that one of the tyres of his car was flat so he decided to drive away and inflate it. Immediately the chief opened the door of his car, two shots were fired from the bush into his neck, sending him down. The fear-stricken people at the scene ran helter-skelter to save their lives, leaving the chief bleeding and wailing on the ground. The wicked assailants then rushed to where the chief was lying and shot him in the leg and fled to escape arrest. Supt Nyaba said no arrest had been made but gave the assurance that the police were doing everything possible to arrest the culprits.
