Judge�s Robber Arrested

One of three armed robbers who attacked and robbed His Honour Seyram Tsatsu Yao Azumah, a former Circuit Judge of Ashaiman, has been rounded up by the Tema police.

The accused, peter Sam Atanga, 27, was arrested on September 2, 2015, at Dawhenya in the Ningo-Prampram District, in connection with unlawful possession of narcotics.

Speaking with Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Juliana Obeng, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Tema Regional Police Commander, she said police investigations revealed that about 1 a.m. on Friday June 5, 2015, Peter Sam Atanga, with two others who are currently at large, scaled the fence wall of the residence of the former Ashiaman Circuit Court Judge and broke into the Judge’s room with a huge hammer.

The Judge and his wife who were asleep were woken and at gunpoint, peter Atanga and his accomplices ordered the victim and his wife to surrender all their valuables.

Later, Peter Sam Atanga and his accomplices robbed the couple of one Samsung tablet, two Nokia mobile phones, one HTC mobile phone, one laptop computer, four wristwatches and a cash of GH7,00.

Leaving the couple unhurt but traumatized, the robbers then escaped, leaving behind one locally manufactured pistol.

However, on September 2, when the Dawhenya Police arrested Peter Sam Atanga for unlawfully possessing narcotics, Justice Azumah appeared at the police station where he identified Peter Sam Atanga as one of the robbers who burgled him.

ASP Obeng said the Dawhenya Police alerted the Tema Regional Police Command, who ordered for the transfer of the accused to Tema Criminal Investigations Department (CID) after further investigations were carried on Peter Sam Atanga, police have charged him for conspiracy to commit crime to wit robbery and robbery.

ASP Juliana Obeng said Peter Sam Atanga was arraigned before the Tema Circuit Court ‘A’ where he has been remanded into police custody. Accused will reappear on September 23, 2015.
