UE Regional Police Command Investigates Escape Of Suspects

The Upper East Regional Police Command has begun investigations into the circumstances that led to the escape of four suspects at the Zuarungu Police Station. The suspects, three of whom are juveniles, were remanded in police custody but allegedly escaped last Sunday about 6:45p.m. The Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Simon Afeku, who confirmed the story, told the Daily Graphic in Bolgatanga that the suspects were remanded for stealing while the adult suspect, aged 24, was also remanded for stealing and possession of narcotics. Their names have been withheld for security reasons. Mr Afeku observed that the suspects created a hole in the wall of a bathroom where they were remanded and managed to escape through it. Rearrest He said the officers on duty at the time of the escape had been given a 10-day ultimatum to rearrest the suspects, failure of which they would face disciplinary action. "The officers on duty would go through our usual service inquiries and once it is established that there is negligence of duty they will face the necessary action," he stated.
