A store keeper and a driver of Tobinco Pharmaceutical Company have been hauled before an Accra circuit court for allegedly stealing drugs belonging to the company.
The value of the stolen medicines was estimated at about GH�59,389.20.
The suspects, Paul Darko, a store keeper and his alleged accomplice, William Amankwah, driver, were arraigned in the court presided over by Mrs. Afi Agbaney Kudomor.
They were charged with conspiracy to commit crime and stealing.
They have pleaded not guilty and have been granted bail in the sum of GH�40,000 with two sureties while the case has been adjourned to September 29, 2015.
Narrating the facts leading to the arrest of the accused persons, the prosecutor, ACP Moses Atibilla, told the court that the complainant in the case is Andrew John Ofori, the Human Resource Manager of Tobinco Pharmaceuticals.
He stated that during the early part of July 2015 management of Tobinco Pharmaceuticals detected that some drugs such as Leonart and Fungbact, had been unaccounted for.
The police officer indicated that auditors were tasked to carry out auditing and they detected that the invoice of products worth GH�58,383.20 had not been accounted for, adding that the original invoices were missing.
The police officer said on July 13, 2015 it came to light that the company�s warehouse had supplied goods to the store keeper who could not account for them.
Explaining further, he stated that Amankwah had told management that he gave the drugs to the driver to send to the Okaishie branch of the company in Accra, but there were no records to show that the goods had reached their destination.
He said the matter was subsequently reported to the police and the culprits were arrested and dragged to court after police investigations had been concluded.
