MOYS Set To Renovate Azumah Nelson Sports Complex

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) in partnership with Thumbay Group of Companies, United Arab Emirates (UAE), has signed a preliminary Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), that will see the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex undergo a major facelift. The preliminary MOU is aimed at conducting evaluation on the facility in a bid to commence renovation works on the dilapidated facility in earnest. Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, Minister of Youth and Sports, said the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the sports facility, which is in line with his ministry's quest for more partnership with the private sector. He expressed confidence in the capabilities of the Thumbay Group to deliver a good job adding that he was impressed with their state of the art sports and medical facilities after visiting them earlier this year in the UAE. "This preliminary MOU spells the start of the engagement to rehabilitate the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex. After the signing and assessment of the facility, we will then proceed with the renovation." He stated. The minister disclosed that the Thumbay Group intends to construct a medical university in Ghana after signing a similar MOU with the Ministry of Education. Mr. Thumbay Moideen, founder of the Thumbay Group of Companies, who signed the MOU on behalf of his outfit said he was looking forward to upgrading the existing structure to world class status. He said, "We are looking forward to commencing this project, which we hope will produce top athletes for the nation after renovation works are done".
