�Wee� Smuggling Attempt Foiled

The attempt by 12 people to smuggle 338 parcels of substance suspected to be Indian hemp into Togo on motor-bikes, was foiled by Immigration officials on border patrol duties on Wednesday at Zukpe, in the Volta Region.

The suspect, who were smuggling the wee into Togo through unapproved routes, abandoned the sacks and the bikes when they encountered personnel of the Ghana Immigration (GIS) on border patrol duties.

Briefing The Ghanaian Times in Ho yesterday, Assistant Comptroller of Immigration (ACO) Alex Adu, Second-in-Command of the Volta Region, said the sacks contained a total of 338 parcels of the substance.

According to him, six of the sacks were each loaded with 50 compressed parcels of the leaves, while the other six contained packages of the loose leaves.

The motor-bikes and the sacks containing the dried leaves have been taken to the Narcotics Unit of the Regional Police Headquarters in Ho, “ACOI Adu added.
