Don't Let Us Reach The Stage Where Demonstrators Will Arm Themselves - John Boadu Warns

John Boadu, National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, says members of pressure groups in the country will not stop demonstrating against the government despite any kind of force that the Ghana Police Service exerts on them.

Contributing to a panel discussion programme on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", John Boadu decried the behaviour of the Police Service towards demonstrators in the nation.

Alluding to Wednesday's violent clash between dispatched Police personnel to guide demonstrators advancing to the Electoral Commission (EC) to present a petition, John Boadu stated that so far as there will be successive governments and demands from the people of Ghana, demonstrations will never cease.

He however appealed to the Police Service to adopt new measures to tame demonstrators and not resort to violence since they are trained to protect the masses.

“We shall not stop it today or tomorrow. So far as we will have government, State institutions and human organizations, and there are competing demands between employers and employees, the ruled and the rulers; demonstration is going to continue."

According to him, there should not be a repetition of Wednesday's incident since such confrontations by the Police may suddenly irk the people who may also arm themselves when embarking on demonstrations.

“I don’t want us to reach the age in this country where demonstrators will arm themselves when holding demonstrations...“What will you achieve from this? You’re incensing people. You’re unnecessarily provoking the citizenry.”
