It Was Needless To Use "Graduated Force" On Demonstrators - NDC Communicator Chides GPS

NDC Communicator Eric Ametor Quarmyne has condemned the violent attacks by the Ghana Police Service on demonstrators in the country.

Wednesday saw a bloody confrontation between the Police personnel and members of Let My Vote Count Movement (LMVC), Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG) and Movement for Change when they held a procession to petition the Electoral Commissioner Madam Charlotte Osei over their request for a new voters' register.

The demonstrators, who were initially being guided by the Police on the streets of Accra, later had to run for their lives after the Police released tear gas and splash water cannons on them for allegedly refusing to comply with a court order.

Speaking on Peace FM on Kokrokoo, Mr. Ametor Quarmyne said it was "needless" of the Police to exert such force on the demonstrators resulting in several injuries.

According to him, even if the protesters flouted their orders, they could have been appropriate ways to handle them.

Using violence or what they Police have described as "graduated force" on the demonstrators, to Ametor Quarmyne, should not be an option.
