National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) John Boadu has described Police PRO DSP Cephas Arthur as a "liar" for defending the actions of the Ghana Police Service.

There was a bloody clash between officers of the Ghana Police Service and demonstrators on Wednesday.

The demonstrators, primarily members of Let My Vote Count Movement (LMVC), Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG) and Movement for Change were confronted by the Police for allegedly refusing to comply with their orders.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) DSP Cephas Arthur is reported to have blamed the demonstrators for the violent clashes, claiming they hurled stones at the Police.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", John Boadu expressed disappointment in the Police PRO stating emphatically that his claims are a complete fabrication and contrast of the real incident that occurred during the demonstration.

According to him, none of the demonstrators pelted stones or any offensive object at the Police to warrant their "graduated force" on them.

“How can you lie? When we embarked on the demo, and I’m throwing a challenge to them, they had their cameras, their videos. When they were assaulting Dr. Agnes Oduro, a Policewoman who was part of those beating her said she should wait awhile for them to capture a video of the incident.

“How can you lie like that? How can you lie like that…What I saw was that they were just beating people indiscriminately…It’s a shame.”

He said they comported themselves and so, didn't deserve the punishment that was meted out to them.

"They (the Police) are encouraging instant punishment in this country. Is that what they are encouraging? For instance, when I, John Boadu, chances upon someone committing a crime; I must lynch him. The Police do not also have the right to pummel anyone. There is no law in Ghana that gives them (Police) such authority," John Boadu asserted.
