$100M From Eurobond To Complete Eastern Roads

Government is expected to set aside $100 million from funds from the next eurobond to complete the remaining portions of the eastern corridor road. This was announced by President John Dramani Mahama as part of the governments comprehensive road and water transport programme for the Volta Region, during his two-day working visit to that region. I have asked the Minister of Finance when the eurobond has been raised for a $100 million of the eurobond to be reserved to complete those portions of the eastern corridor road and so we should see a first class eastern corridor road being completed in the near future While announcing the deployment of a number of new ferries on the Volta river, the President also revealed that the Adomi bridge in Atimpoku will be completed and opened to the public. The eastern corridor road is made up of a complex mix of roads traversing the Greater Accra, Volta, Northern and Upper East regions and is expected to ease access to markets and also enable farmers to increase the value of agriculture produce and Parts of the road in recent times has become virtually unmotorable due to the rains. A few weeks ago, some vehicles and heavy duty trucks plying the road were stuck in the muddy stretch after a heavy downpour. The President however revealed that the road, when completed will open up traffic on the North eastern corridor of the country and allow agricultural products, passengers, goods to travel smoothly between the North and South.
