Alhaji Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa Central Constituency arrived in Wa on Wednesday to a rousing welcome by the youth and constituency party executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The youth poured out in their numbers to meet the Minister of State in charge of Public Private Partnership (PPP) on the way at Bamahu to welcome him and usher him into Wa town.
The arrival of the Wa Central Legislator gingered up the jubilant crowed of youth who ushered him into town through the principal streets of Wa amidst singing and dancing accompanied by an acrobatic display of motor riding skills.
The event that could be compared to a Presidential welcome, left observers thinking about the level of youth support for Alhaji Dr. Pelpuo especially at a time the NDC expanded its electoral college.
After being ushered through the Constituency and Regional Offices of the Party and some principal streets of Wa and finally to his residence in Dobile Low Cost, the MP was short of words to thank the enthusiastic youth who filled up the compound waiting to hear a word from him.
He urged them to continue to show their support for him and that together they would overcome the primaries and go ahead to win the seat come the 2016 general elections.
In an interview with the media shortly after, the Minister of State said the magnitude of his welcome described his level of support right from the top to the grassroots level.
He refuted allegations that the expansion of the Party�s Electoral College could cause his downfall, saying it was rather to his advantage because he was a grassroots man.
He said as an MP he had done a lot for the constituency personally aside what government did, but admitted that there was still a lot to be done in the area of roads, water, education and health infrastructure among others.
�Development is a process and not a one-off event and it is for this reason that I seek the people�s mandate once again to strongly represent them in parliament and help address their challenges,� he said.
