Ahiable Vows To Defeat Baba Jamal

An Accra-based prominent business consultant, Mr Basil Ahiable, has vowed to defeat the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia, Mr Mohammed Ahmed Baba Jamal, in the forthcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries.

He has also promised not only to win the parliamentary seat for the NDC by a wide margin but also secure not less than 60 per cent of the presidential votes for the party to enhance the chances of President John Mahama of being re-elected to the highest office in the country.

Mr Ahiable gave the assurance last Wednesday when he presented his completed nomination forms at a grand and well-attended function at Akwatia.

The ceremony attracted hundreds of party faithful, some of whom were on top of cars, motor bikes, parading through the principal streets of Akwatia amid singing, blowing of horns and dancing to brass band music.

Mr Ahiable stressed that he decided to enter the race in order to retain the parliamentary seat for the NDC as Baba Jamal had become unpopular due to his actions, behaviour, attitude and utterances which had made the party unattractive in the constituency.

“As a unifier, humble, tolerant and down-to-earth man with a wide range of experiences, I will bring the disappointed NDC members, supporters and sympathisers back to the party to play effective roles to retain the parliamentary seat for the NDC on December 7, 2016,” he stressed.

He promised to conduct a clean and peaceful campaign and urged his competitor and his supporters to do same to ensure the unity of the NDC after the primary.

The Akwatia constituency secretary of the NDC, Mr Joseph Asiedu, who received the nomination forms, wished Mr Ahiable the best of luck.

He, however, advised Mr Ahiable and Baba Jamal and their supporters to eschew violence and conduct incident- free campaigns to sustain the prevailing peace, unity and tranquility in the party and in the constituency, since the election is among brothers and sisters.
