Four policemen from the Airport Police Station in Accra have been arrested for allegedly stealing GH�1.36 million and 974 grammes of gold valued at GH�2.1 million belonging to five Indian businessmen. The four are Chief Inspector Emmanuel Nunekpeku, Sergeant Alexander Akuako, General Sergeant Julius Savor and General Corporal Richard Ayayi. They are said to have been sent to effect the arrest of the five Indians who were suspected to be engaged in money laundering and other illegal activities at Osu in Accra. According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, ASP Efia Tenge, the police had information that the Indians were involved in illegal business activities and the four policemen were detailed from the Airport Police Station to effect their arrest at 7 a.m. last Saturday, September 19, 2015. She said on arrival at Osu, the policemen informed the Indians about their mission and started searching the house, during which they found three safes containing huge amounts of money and 16 grammes of gold. The policemen then arrested the five Indians and packed the exhibits into a Toyota Corrolla belonging to the leader of the Indians. Chief Inspector Nunekpeku, who was joined by two of the Indians, is said to have driven the Toyota Corolla, while the other three suspects joined a police vehicle. Both vehicles are said to have been driven directly to the Airport Police Station. ASP Tenge said on arrival, the Toyota Corrolla carrying the exhibits was parked and locked at the police station, while the statements of the five suspects were taken. After the statements, the suspects were released to go with their exhibits and to report themselves to the police the next day for further investigations. Complaint lodged Later, the Indians returned to the Airport Police Station and lodged a complaint that when they went back home with the safes, they realised that GH�1.36 million and 974 grammes of gold valued at GH�2.1 million were missing. ASP Tenge said the policemen were arrested after the complaint had been made and put in custody for further investigations into the matter.
