Statistics from the total number of students admitted into the University of Cape Coast (UCC) for the 2015/2016 academic year indicated that female enrollment was still low. The University admitted 1,591 female students representing 33.7% of the total admission as compared to the 1,679 female students, 31.3% of students admitted last year, recording a slight increase. A total of 4,715 undergraduate students from the 10,900 applications received, were admitted, of which Graduate Students admissions showed a five percent reduction of female enrollment compared to last year. Speaking at this year�s matriculation ceremony for the newly admitted students, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Domwini D. Kuupole stated that there was 11.9 per cent drop over the total number of students admitted last year. The University received lesser applications compared to that of last year, whiles the general performance of applicants fell short of that recorded in the previous year coupled with a higher cut off points for most programmes, hence the drop in numbers. Prof. Kuupole hinted that two students who used fake results to apply into the University had been expelled from the school and advised prospective applicants to desist from using other means to gain admission into the University. He said in an attempt to make life comfortable for students on campus, the Office of the Dean of Students in collaboration with the Students Representative Council has set up a �Students� Emergency Relief Fund� to help with respect to payment of fees and other difficulties. He indicated that a total of 138 students continuing students have benefited from the Fund and called on Non-Governmental Organizations and other philanthropist to contribute to the fund to support many students who found it difficult to cope on campus. Prof. Kuupole stressed that the University would not compromise on discipline and advised the students to abide by the �do�s and don�ts� of the students Handbook adding that �discipline is the bedrock of every academic enterprise and the surest way to achieve success�. He assured the new students that the University would work to ensure that security on campus was conducive to go about their normal duties. He urged the students to make good use of the opportunities that came their way and learn hard to ensure that their full potentials was realized, so that they could contribute significantly to the growth and development of the nation.
