The Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI) says in pursuance of an agreement with stakeholders, all plastic products should have oxobiodegradable additives added, to make them bio-degradable for easy management. �The new development takes effect from 1st November, 2015,� a statement signed by Zaksri Musah, Public Relations Officer of MESTI, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said. �All flexible plastics below 20 microns produced in the country or imported shall not be allowed in the country from 1st November, 2015,� the statement said. In pursuance of the directive, the ministry said it would begin monitoring plastic manufacturing companies from 1st November to ensure that the directive regarding the use of oxobiodegradables and reduced micron levels in the flexible plastics were complied with. The monitoring exercise would also allow the ministry to find out challenges facing the producers. According to the statement, the ministry would assist in the management of plastic waste to find lasting solution to its debilitating impact on human lives. �The Ministry wishes to assure the general public that further discussions with stakeholders are ongoing to ensure that the directives are carried out to ensure a clean environment,� it said. It also assured the citizenry that everything would be done to ensure the current situation was brought under control for a healthy and clean Ghana.
