Efforts are being made to relocate Ghana�s foreign mission in Cairo, Egypt, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, has disclosed to the Daily Graphic. Ghana�s Embassy in Egypt is currently located on the 126th of July Corridor Street, Lebanon Square, in the district of Mohandessin, west of Cairo. The vision of the embassy is to co-ordinate and promote friendly relations between Ghana and the Arab Republic of Egypt and other countries of concurrent accreditation, as well as protect the national interests of Ghana in a manner as to meaningfully contribute to the enhancement of Ghana�s security and socio-economic development. Need to relocate In an interview yesterday, Ms Tetteh said her ministry had been informed that there was the need to relocate the embassy. Ms Tetteh said Ghana�s Ambassador in Cairo, Ambassador Colonel Omar Sanda Ahamed (retd), drew her ministry�s attention a couple of months ago to the fact that given the current situation in Egypt, it would be better to move the embassy away from that location. �So steps are already being taken to relocate the embassy,� she said. Ms Tetteh, however, stated that the bomb, which was identified and defused by the Egyptian security authorities, was not found in the embassy�s compound but in a very busy part of the city where the embassy is located. �As a matter of fact, because there are lots of people, we�ve even taken the decision to move the embassy away from there and we are in the process of doing so,� she said. Ghana Embassy not target Ms Tetteh also stated that the Ghana Embassy was not the target of the planned bomb attack but the busy suburb where it is located. �We believe that the attack was not targeted at our embassy but it was rather targeted at a location where it would have caused a lot of injury, not to our staff per se, but to the people who are outside the premises, because this was not done within our embassy. It was done outside our embassy,� she declared. It is, however, not known who is responsible for the bomb as no group has owned up yet.
