USAID RING Presents Motorbikes to Decentralized Departments at Damongo

The West Gonja District Assembly in partnership with the Resiliency in Northern Ghana (RING) project has presented eight (8) Motorbikes and assorted office equipment valued at GH¢ 70,100 to four Decentralized Departments and Units of the West Gonja District Assembly.

The motorbikes and equipment are to boost their capacity to undertake project activity implementation and monitoring as well as provide quality social services to the people to improve the nutrition and livelihood status of vulnerable households in the area.

The beneficiary departments are: District Agriculture Department, Internal Audit Unit, Department of Community Development and Social Welfare and the District Health Management Team. The items presented include; Motorbikes, Desktop and Laptop computers, Printers, Projector screen, Digital Cameras, Global Positioning System devices and Uninterrupted Power Supply systems.

Presenting the items in Damongo, the West Gonja District Chief Executive Mr. Kassim Ali Bakari said the Assembly and its Development Partners would continue to strengthen the capacities of the various decentralized departments under the Assembly. As such, the provision of logistics and trainings to ensure that they prioritize and integrate nutrition and livelihood related activities in the implementation and monitoring of the progress of project activities in the district.

Mr. Ali Bakari expressed his profound gratitude to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the People of America for their continued support to projects and activities aimed at improving the nutrition and livelihood status of vulnerable households in Northern Ghana.

According to Mr. Ali Bakari the donation of the motorbikes was apt and had come at the opportune time to help improve agriculture and health delivery services to inaccessible communities in the district.

He said the RING project had also enhanced the capacity of some selected staff of the Assembly in the areas of procurement, public financial management, information and communications technology (ICT) and monitoring and evaluation.

Mr. Ali Bakari further called on the beneficiary departments to put the items into good use and maintain them regularly to prolong their lifespan.

RING is a USAID-funded project. The intervention is implemented through a collaborative approach with 17 District Assemblies (DAs) in the Northern Region and the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) to improve the livelihood and nutritional status of vulnerable households in targeted communities of the region.
