Chief Imam Lauds CJ

The National Chief Imam, Dr Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, has commended the Chief Justice and the Judicial Council for committing themselves to bring judges and other court officials implicated in the alleged judicial scandal to book.

The decision, according to Sheikh Dr Sharabutu, would help sanitise the judicial system and inculcate the spirit of honesty in other judges and court officials in the performance of their duties.

The Chief Imam gave the commendation in a speech read on his behalf of his spokesperson Sheikh Bado Mohammed at the Eid-Ul-Adha celebration at the Independence Square in Accra yesterday. He said the scandal was not only sad, but a dent on the judiciary that the perception of it being corrupt and that judgment could be given in favour of the highest bidder was real.

Sheikh Sharabutu said instead of people being committed and sacrificing for the sake of the nation, they preferred amassing wealth for themselves and not seeking the interest of the state. He urged the public to take a lesson from Prophet Ibrahim, who passed the test to slaughter his son, Ishmael as a sacrifice to God.

“We are enjoined to make sacrifice towards the country’s development as opposed to our individual self-interests and in the case of the judges and the court officials instead of them making sacrifice in pursuit of national interests, they did that for their self-interest,” he said.
