Cttee Yet To Submit Report On Timbilla

The board of enquiry investigating the recruitment scam involving Commissioner of Police (COP) Patrick Eden Timbilla, Director-General in charge of Human Resource, and two other personnel, is yet to submit its report to the Police Council for study and advice six months after the incident.

A highly placed source at the Police Headquarters in Accra revealed this to The Ghanaian Times yesterday.

The interdicted officer and the two personnel, Constable Ruth Agyire and Corporal Gideon Sarpong, were alleged to have been mentioned by some suspects arrested in connection with the fraud.

Also mentioned in the case were Aisha Asumda, alias Aisha Boku Masi, 36, sheabutter seller and prime suspect; Alfa Adams Abass, 27, unemployed; Paul Danso, a pastor; Amos Brown and Richard Harrison.

A special task force was, subsequently, set up by the Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan and headed by the DCOP Bright Oduro, the Commandant of the Police Training Academy, to investigate the matter.

It was alleged that some of the victims paid between GH¢4,000 and GH¢7,000 to Aisha and her gang who in turn, issued them with appointment letters, to report at the various Police Training Depots in the country to begin training.

On Saturday, February 28, hundreds of young men and women turned up at five police training depots across the country for enlistment in the Ghana Police Service but discovered that their recruitment letters were fake and that the purported enlistment was a scam.

It took the police a hectic time to send the disappointed victims away, most of whom claimed to be university graduates and had gone to the Kumasi, Koforidua, Pwalugu, Accra and Ho Police Depots with their luggage to begin training.

The incident compelled the Police Administration to launch an investigation into the matter, resulting in the arrest of the suspects including the two police personnel.
