National ID Card Solution To Electoral Problems Kwesi Pratt

Editor- in- Chief of the Insight Newspaper Kwesi Pratt Jnr. says the only solution to electoral problems in the country is the provision of National Identification cards.

According to him, creating a new voters register is not the solution to the persistent rumours of vote rigging.

“What will changing the voters register solve as far as elections are concerned? Absolutely nothing but I can assure you that when new ID cards are made, all our problems will be solved” he asserted.

Whereas the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling for a new voters register, pressure group Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVC) is warning of picketing the EC to demand that the same problem be solved.

The argument for a new voters register by the opposition party reveals that the existing one is filled with over 76,286 Togolese nationals whose identities were also found in the Togo Voters Register.

The party said just 10 percent of its research has uncovered over 80,000 foreign names in the register hence the need for a new electoral data in Ghana.

Though the EC has taken into consideration claims and arguments by the political parties and civil societies, chairperson of the commission, Charlote Osei has stated that her outfit will not succumb to pressure from any political party or any group.

But Kwesi Pratt Jnr. speaking on Adom FM Thursday pointed out that, though he supports the stance by the Commission, they should also take into consideration preparing a new National ID cards which to him can help solve the claims of bloated register.

“Why can’t we go in for national ID card system which can be used for everything as well as voting? I’m sure that will really help because left with me alone, the issue of changing our voters registers is not necessary” he stated.
