LMVCA Cant Compel EC To Do What They Want - Bernard Monnah

Inasmuch as the political pressure group called Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) has the constitutional mandate to embark on its picketing at the office of the Electoral Commission (EC), the aspiring National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah says the pressure group’s mode of operation was wrong.

He explained that the Let My Vote Count Alliance should have submitted its petition through proposal just as the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Madam Charlotte Osei has called on all political parties and concerned stakeholders with interest in election to submit proposals to address the issue relating to the voters’ register.

Speaking in an interview with the host, Kwame Nkrumah Tikese on Okay Fm’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Bernard Monnah who is a member of the IPAC said Let My Vote Count Alliance should have rather sent its proposal to the EC so that necessary steps would have been taken.

He wondered why before all the 30 stakeholders could meet to deliberate on the issue with the voters register, LMVCA said no and instead chose to disrupt the process which all had agreed to adhere to.

“But before we could all meet to deliberate on the issue, there is one group that says ‘no, we cannot wait for the deliberations; we will disrupt the processes’. It looks to me they want to compel the EC to do what they want but no one person has the superior knowledge,” he chided.

“…LMVCA could have also just sent its proposal to EC and then we all go for the debate at the public forum. It is possible that LMVCA can bring its superior argument and the rest of us all can accept they have a case and therefore we should go for a new register or not,” he added.

To him, the processes are open with demonstration characterizing the process; reiterating this is healthy democratic practice but with the attacks on the protesters, Mr. Monnah said he would defend the rights of the protesters any given day.

He therefore said the police had no business to beat the members of Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) to the extent that some people suffered physical injury.
