Trader Assaults Cousin

Aku Yawli, a 45-year-old trader who unlawfully assaulted her cousin, has been fined GH¢200 and bonded to be of good behaviour for 12 months.

If Aku fails to pay the fine, she will serve seven months imprisonment in hard labour.

Aku was also made to pay GH¢550 to her cousin to offset her medical expenses.

Presenting the facts to the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Frank Gbeddy, the prosecutor, ASP Richmond Akwasi Yeboah, said the complainant, Gladys Agbobo, a 52-year-old farmer and Aku live at Akpese, a suburb of Somanya.

ASP Yeboah said Gladys usually kept her basket on Aku’s veranda but on December 23, 2013, at about 4:30 am, she detected that Yawli had moved the basket from its original position.

When she (Gladys) asked Aku why she moved the basket, Aku became offended, insulted Gladys and poured water on her.

ASP Yeboah said Gladys left the scene but Aku followed her and pushed her. Gladys fell down and her left hand was dislocated. She then reported the incident to the police.

He said Aku was arrested and in her caution statement said Gladys hit her with a torchlight so she retaliated by pushing her.
