Calm Returns To Bolga

Calm has returned to Atulibabisi , a suburb of Bolgatanga, after a short spell of violence last Saturday night in which seven people were injured and some houses torched.

The incident which is linked to the chieftaincy dispute in the area is being investigated by the security agencies.

Four of those who sustained injuries have been treated and discharged, while the remaining three are still receiving treatment at the Bolgatanga Regional hospital.

The Upper East Deputy Regional Minister, Mr Daniel Syme , who visited the patients at the Regional Hospital encouraged and wish them well.

The Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police ( DCOP) Simon Afeku, said so far no arrests had been made in connection with the incident, but emphasised that any culprit caught would be dealt with according to the law.

He gave the assurance that the security agencies were considering embarking upon a thorough search for illegal weapons in the community and called on the people to give peace a chance.

Meanwhile when GNA visited the community, security was tight as armed military and police personnel were seen patrolling the area to maintain law and order.

Those who fled the area as a result of Saturday's violence have returned, as residents of the community were seen going about their routine duties.

In a related development, the President of the Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy (NORPRA) , Mr Bismark Ayorogo Adongo, cautioned the youth in the region to desist from violence, saying that the area needed peace to develop.

He said the recent violence did not spread beyond Atulibabisi and that the the Bolgatanga Municipality was noted for its peace and tranquility.
