Stop It! Youve No Business Meddling In Calls For Credible Voters Register - CCG To NDC & NPP

The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) through its General Secretary, Rev Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong has asked the two main political parties, the ruling NDC and the largest opposition NPP to stop their move to decide on how Ghanaians should vote in 2016 elections.

According to him, the aforementioned political parties have no business to determine which voters’ register should be used to conduct elections.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Rev Dr. Opuni-Frimpong insisted the people who have the mandate to demand changes or not solely depend on Ghanaians because they have the power to determine which political party should rule the country.

NDC and NPP should step aside on the issue of voters’ register; EC should do independent work. It should rather listen the views of Ghanaians and not the political parties seeking to be voted into power. They cannot tell us how they want to be voted; it is wrong to meddle in the move for the credible voters’ register. They should stay away from the case and allow EC to rather listen to Ghanaians”, he advised.

Stating the position of the Christian Council, Rev Dr. Opuni-Frimpong said there should be the need for credible voters’ register which all Ghanaians will be at peace with; adding the council’s request is based on the Supreme Court ruling in 2012 election petition which called for electoral reforms.

He maintained this is a sure way to instill confidence again in Ghanaians in polls; stressing per the public outcry for a new voters’ register, the Electoral Commission should heed to that demand and do something about it.

He quickly added that the position of the Christian Council of Ghana is not an entrenched one on whether or not to have a new voters’ register.

We are not exactly calling for a new voters’ register but we are saying we should work on the electoral process to a point that people will have total confidence in the election results”, he stated.
