Court Fines Baby Thief

A magistrate Court in Tamale presided over by His Lordship Justice Augestine Essah has convicted Vida Golomesio to a fine of GH₵ 480.00 or in a default spend two years behind bars for stealing a two day old baby boy at the Tamale West Hospital.

The sentence by the judge brewed a shocker as the complainant, 27year old Limah Addo and her relatives who were in court for the first time, looked disappointed and unhappy.

The suspect however looked regretful and quickly ordered a relative to pay the fine for her to be freed.

The accused had said in court on her first appearance that, her husband had mounted "pressure" to her to get a child or he would divorce her.

The judge however cautioned her to follow the right procedures if she wanted to own a child.

It could be recalled that, Vida Golomesio 38 year old was arrested with a baby boy at Karaga in the Northern Region.

Mrs. Vida Golomesio said her husband told the Chief that she came back home with a baby, which was very suspicious because she never got pregnant.

It should be added, the arrest and subsequent prosecution of Vida Golomesio for baby theft was due to the collaborative effort of management of the hospital.
