Bolga BOST Fuel Depot Reopens

The Bolgatanga depot of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) is being re-opened for operations after 10 years inactivity.

It will serve as an export point for petroleum products to Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.

With the reopening of the facility, petroleum products will be transferred via pipelines from the company's Buipe depot to Bolgatanga.

It would also address the perennial smuggling of petroleum products to neighbouring countries, which is a major challenge in the two upper regions and parts of the Northern Region.

Minister of the Interior, Mr Mark Woyongo said the reopening will reduce Bulk Road Vehicle (BRV) haulage of products which he said had caused considerable damage to the country's road infrastructure particularly in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions.

He also expressed worry at the number of unlicensed petroleum vending stations along the Navrongo-Paga and Tumu highways which he said is promoting fuel smuggling across board.
