Hon. Isaac Osei: Akufo-Addo Not A Pillar In NPP

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Isaac Osei, has vehemently debunked claims that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is a pillar in the New Patriotic Party (NPP). According to him, the systems that the main opposition Party has put in place makes it difficult for any individual, irrespective of ones status in the party, to call himself or simply describe himself as a pillar in the NPP. He pointed out that when the party opens nomination for interested persons to file for the presidential race, and consequently the campaign for the partys big do (Presidential primaries), "it is there and then one will see who actually is a pillar or popular in the Danquah/Busia/Dombo tradition." Isaac Osei who was one time Chief Executive of Cocobod said this in an exclusive interview with the Accra Times newspaper at Parliament House, in Accra last Thursday. The Subin MP who was also Ghanas Ambassador to the United Kingdom under the erstwhile former President John Agyekum Kufuor was of the view that Nana Akufo-Addo would be a fore-runner just because he was the partys flagbearer in the last general elections but added that does not guarantee him to be a pillar in NPP. Handsome and gentle Isaac Osei continued that he had not disclosed his Presidential ambition to former President J.A Kufuor and therefore wondered how and where the media got their report that the former President has thrown his support behind him, Isaac Osei. He stressed that very soon he will make his ambition as regards the Presidential race known after testing the waters to see whether he had enough support at the grass roots. He maintained that the NPP as a big party, has a lot of intellectual stalwarts and that Nana Akufo-Addo was not exceptional, adding that the NPPs flagbearer for the 2008 general election cannot be a pillar in a well structured political party like the NPP. Hon. Osei has therefore cautioned those who are circulating such falsehood to desist from that despite the fact that Nana Akufo-Addo led the party in the last election. Continuing, the former Cocobod Chief Executive related, that former President J.A. Kufuor had made it clear that he had no faction neither does he belong to any faction in the NPP and by extension does not support any candidate in the party, hence anyone who wants to vie for the partys presidential race which would take place later next-year should not think they have the support of the former President.
